Gamers are a fussy lot. I should know because I’m one of them! There’s nothing worse than buying a brand spanking new gaming console, rigging it up to your TV to find that the picture looks lifeless and dull due to playing it on an outdated or feature-deficient TV.
When you’re playing games that demand high definition, low input lag and little motion blur, your normal TV that you use for watching cable on is totally useless when it comes to playing GTA or Medal of Honor. The demands on these games require you to have quick reflexes. With your average TV there’s just too much delay between what’s happening on your pad and the action on the TV. The last thing a pure gamer wants to see is blur all over their screen while in the middle of a gaming session.
As the gaming industry and demand for video games grows and grows year on year, the big electronics companies have had to raise their game (pardon the pun) when it comes to producing products that meet the needs of gamers and their highly realistic video games. They are now focusing on producing products that enhance the gaming experience on gaming consoles and PCs and have made quite an excellent selection of gaming TVs that are now available for gamers to snap up today! This is great news for gamers who use their HDTV primarily for gaming.
Below are our favourite gaming TVs for 2016.
The LG Electronics 55UB8500 55-Inch 4K Ultra HD 120Hz 3D Smart LED TV is the latest in a line of LG products that have stayed on the cutting edge of the market for media. As the value option for the line of premium products on the market today, consumers get a sampler platter to the next generation of entertainment without having to spend an arm and a leg.
The content producers for television have not yet caught up to the 4K standard, so the most important feature of any 4K TV today is the ability of that TV to upscale 1080 and 720 content. The LG Electronics 55UB8500 55-Inch 4K Ultra HD 120Hz 3D Smart LED TV does this quite admirably, providing a picture that rivals any competitor even from a lower fidelity source.
In Plane Switching
The in plane switching feature of the LG Electronics 55UB8500 55-Inch 4K Ultra HD 120Hz 3D Smart LED TV is one of the most exciting features of this generation. The brilliance of the picture is improved overall. The side angles are improved as well, meaning that a viewer does not have to sit directly in front of the TV set in order to get the best quality picture.
When it comes to cutting edge televisions, Sony is brand that tends to deliver some impressive models. The Sony KDL50W800B is a great example of the superior focus the company puts into displays. This entry into the 50-inch market features a crisp and clear backlight full HD 1080p picture and top level sound. Plus, the 120Hz refresh rate keeps the action on the screen clear no matter how fast it is moving. The unit also contains four HDMI ports and three USB ports, which makes connecting all those Blu-ray players, streaming media devices, portable devices, and gaming systems a simple task with plenty of room to grow.
What really sets the Sony KDL50W800B apart from other televisions is the smart feature, which allows the TV to connect wirelessly to the internet. Not only can users access a wide variety of options from the Sony App platform, but streaming Netflix, Hulu, Flixter and more are readily available options, which reduces the dependency on other devices. However, folks who like to stay in touch will love the Skype, Facebook, and Twitter apps that transform the watching experience into a social event. Shoppers should note that a separate camera is required to take advantage of Skype.
In the end, the high end visual specifications of this unit offer a great viewing experience. Since two pairs of 3D glasses are included, buyers looking to break into that segment of entertainment have some nice groundwork available to them. However, because this display was built for the 3D crowd, it offers a cutting edge experience for the general user.
LG’s 55EC9300 just may be the feature-rich television your living room needs. This 55-inch OLED television has an impressive list of specs: curved OLED screen, 4 Color Pixel Technology, webOS™ “smart” technology, and a 160-degree viewing angle making it a great choice on game day. It also has a much higher refresh rate than its LCD counterparts on the market. LG proudly boasts of this unit’s pencil-thin design which is 0.17 inches thick at the thinnest point.
The main attraction of this model is the OLED screen. OLED, or organic light-emitting diode, offers superior viewing angles, higher contrast, and brighter colors than older LCDs. The 55EC9300 includes webOS™ which allows for internet browsing, social media, video streaming and many other tablet-like features. That means you can mount this unit on a wall and have very little need for any unsightly wires or set top boxes along with it. Using a wireless internet connection, this TV only needs a power source to be entertainment-ready.
The suggested price from LG is $2499.99 which puts it out of reach for most television buyers. But if you must have a sleek, full featured 55-inch OLED, the 55EC9300 is a great choice.

How to take care of your Gaming TV
It is recommended to use your gaming tv at room temperature and humidity in order to maintain its optimum performance. Your tv’s lifetime can be shortened when it is used under conditions of high temperature and humidity. When it is used at low temperature of 10°C or lower, response time and brightness are affected in such a way that the proper display may not be obtained. When left to significant changes of temperature (hot to cold or cold to hot), your gaming tv may be affected; specifically, significant temperature changes from cold to hot leads to water on the surface which may affect the operation of the polarizer and product.
It is recommended to use your gaming tv in a clean place and to exercise caution to ensure it is not affected by dust or liquids, etc. If used in dusty place, dust may cause an electrical short inside the product resulting in malfunction. If your gaming tv is penetrated by humidity or wetness, the polarizer may be discolored. If the liquid gets into the gaming tv, then it may cause an electrical short or corrosion, which in turn may cause the tv to stop working. As the LCD is produced from a sheet of glass, you must be careful with it. You should be careful with handling the gaming tv as shock, vibration, and careless handling may seriously affect the product.
The LCD screen is produced from a delicate layer of film that can easily be scratched; thus, be careful of any sharp objects around your gaming tv. Since the LCD is made of glass, it may be damaged if it is bent. If it falls from a high place or receives a strong shock, the glass may be broken. The LCD product is composed of sensitive electronic parts and components. Therefore it must be grounded through what is called ESD protection. This could be anything ranging from wristbands to other equipment.equipment. We suggest you use soft gloves when handling any internal parts.
The LCD surface is vulnerable to scratches and thus vulnerable to sharp articles. Do not bend or stretch the back light wire. It is recommended that the gaming tv screen be cleaned by using Isoprophyl Alcohol or Hexane. Other chemicals like acetone or ethyl or methyl chloride should not be used on the gaming station as they can corrode away the surface.
What to Look for in a Gaming TV
It’s hard to imagine a better time to be a gamer. Consoles are more powerful than ever, digital distribution makes buying games a breeze, and satisfying multiplayer action is available across every platform. The display technology that presents your games is progressing nicely, too. If you’re in the market for a new gaming TV, here’s everything you need to know.
It’s Too Late For Plasma
For a long time, the big question when it came to purchasing a flat-screen TV was LCD vs. plasma. Unfortunately, that question has gone extinct. All the major manufacturers closed down their plasma lines in 2014, and plasma TVs are going to be increasingly rare in the future. Some gamers appreciated the better viewing angles, deep blacks, and lack of motion blur offered by plasma TVs, while others were horrified by their image retention issues. If your last gaming TV was a plasma and you were absolutely in love with it, be aware that tracking down a replacement may be difficult!
Is The Time Right For 4K?
The next big leap forward for television is 4K, a resolution that quantum-leaps above HD to deliver staggeringly accurate and detailed pictures. Do your games need a 4K (also known as UHD or ultra high definition) TV? The short answer is “no.” The latest generation of consoles have minimal support for UHD content, and it doesn’t look like that’s going to change in the near future. Unless you’re looking for an big all-purpose TV that you’re going to use for movies as much as gaming, (see below) you can save some money by sticking to regular HD for now.
What About OLED?
TVs that use organic light emitting diodes are very hot right now. OLED TVs offer picture quality that’s extremely hard to beat and a light, thin form factor that’s notable even in a world that’s populated entirely by flatscreens. If you have all the money in the world, you’ll definitely want to buy an OLED TV for gaming. If you haven’t won the lottery yet, though, you may want to give OLED a pass this time around. There are other features to spend on that will enhance your gaming experience more. Remember that OLED technology has only been on the market for three years; prices will undoubtedly fall in the future.
The Question Of Size
The overall size of your TV is an area where gaming stands apart from other uses. While the universal law for most other applications is “bigger is always better,” that’s not true for gaming TVs. An enormous screen can actually work against you, especially if you get very competitive while gaming. The sheer amount of screen real estate you have to keep track of becomes enormous with larger TVs. For general gaming use, a screen size around 40 inches is ideal. If you elect to purchase a larger TV, try to sit well back from it when you’re gaming.
A TV For “Gaming” Vs. A TV For “And Gaming”
You should be getting the impression by now that gaming imposes a specialized set of considerations when you’re picking out a TV. This is why it’s extremely important to settle early on whether you’re looking for a dedicated gaming screen or a good universal TV that also handles games. The size issue identified above is the point where gaming TVs are most distant from general-purpose models.
The One Stat To Rule Them All: Input Lag
Input lag is simply your television’s response time. It measures (in milliseconds) how long it takes the TV to accept new data and render the display accordingly. This is more or less inconsequential when you’re vegetating in front of a sitcom or a movie. When you’re playing a game, though, nothing matters more. Any input lag below 30ms qualifies as excellent, while anything pushing 100ms will cause noticeable delays between controller input and on-screen reactions. This is another reason that bigger isn’t necessarily better when it comes to gaming TVs; smaller screens generally have lower lag times across the board.
What About “Game Mode?”
Input lag is caused by electronic processing that improves image quality. Many modern TVs feature a “game mode” that allows you to shut down some or all of the internal processing in order to minimize lag. The tradeoffs in this situation should be obvious; you get faster responses but you sacrifice a lot of the technological wizardry you’re paying for in a new TV. Don’t believe anyone who tells you there’s a lower limit to input lag. Sony has managed to get their KDL-50W829 (an overall excellent gaming TV, by the way) down to 19ms with no loss in image quality. If you’re using a multi-purpose TV and lag is driving you crazy, using game mode may be a necessity. For a dedicated gaming screen, though, you shouldn’t have to make sacrifices to get a fast response time.
“Smart” TVs (i.e. TVs with an Internet connection) are getting very popular right now. If gaming is your primary motivation for buying a TV, don’t bother with smart TVs. For a start, a gaming console with a wireless connection already provides most of the functionality a smart TV does. (This is especially true with an Xbox One, but even a PlayStation 4 or a Wii U delivers plenty of online options.) You can replicate most of the features of a smart TV by plugging in an inexpensive add on (e.g. Roku, Amazon Fire, Apple TV) if necessary. If you need another reason to stay well away from smart TVs, just bear in mind that smart TVs typically feature very high input lag.
The jury is still out on the curved gaming TVs. Is it an amazing, immersive experience or simply a marketing gimmick? This is one call that has to remain subjective. When it comes to general purpose use, many electronics journalists agree that curved TVs simply don’t have a lot of benefits to offer, especially when you consider their premium price. Here again gamers may see things differently. A high-quality screen that actually wraps around you may have a dramatic impact on how enjoyable your gaming experience is. If it all possible, take a thorough look at a curved TV in person (ideally the model you’re considering) before making a final decision.
You should now have a good handle on the most important factors you need to consider when you plan to buy a gaming TV.
A poorly-chosen TV may prevent you from getting the ideal gaming experience, while an intelligent choice can make your games look that much better — and be that much more fun to play!MORE CURVED TVs ON AMAZON
